PRO-SCAN 2.37 DOCUMENTATION ADDENDUM
================================================================
Monochrome Option: /m
If you experience problems such as unreadable menus or text, use
this option on the command line. PRO-SCAN will then display all of
it's menus in monochrome. This problem is to be found mostly on
some laptops with non fully compatible VGA adapters. Example:
A:\PRO-SCAN /m
================================================================
Direct Mode: /d
This command line option allows you to run PRO-SCAN in an unattended
mode. It allows you for example to run it from a batch file. You will
not be asked for input unless a virus is found. The normal PRO-SCAN
screen will appear so that you can still monitor what is happening. You
can interrupt the scanning at any time by typing the ESCape key. The
operating options are automatically loaded from a Configuration file.
Run PRO-SCAN once, and set the options you wish. (Hit F10 to access the
Main Menu), or allow PRO-SCAN to use its own internal default settings:
Default Settings:
Automatic Virus Removal No
Backup Infected Files No
Search in Subdirectories Yes
Check Read-Only Files Yes
Check Overlays Files Yes
Network Operations No
You can install PRO-SCAN in a batch file, your autoexec.bat for
example, with the options you need, and the disks, or directories you
want to scan. Typical line of a batch file:
PRO-SCAN /d C:
Command line example:
A:\PRO-SCAN /d C:
=============================================================
Multiple Directories:
You can start PRO-SCAN with more than one drive or directory on the
command line. This way you can scan multiple drives, one after the
other. The main purpose of this, is for use in batch file. Example:
A:\PRO-SCAN C: D: E:\BIN E:\WORD
================================================================
Help for command line option:
For a quick reminder of the options available on the Command line, run
PRO-SCAN with the /h option. Example:
A:\PRO-SCAN /h

On-Line help on Viruses:
This new feature allows you to get a complete description of the action
of any known virus -- how it propagates, how many different variants of
it are known, what kind of action to take to get rid of it. This help
is available for all viruses from the Main Menu (F10 key), under the
option Info Virus. It is also available, when a virus is found, from
the Removal Menu, but then it is specific to the discovered virus.
================================================================
Overlays Extension List:
When you select the Check Overlays Option in the Option Menu (F10 key, O),
you now have a display of all Overlay Extensions that will be scanned. You
may select, or unselect them, by going on any of them with the arrow keys,
and pressing return. This will toggle the little white square that follows
the Extension name. If it is present, files with that extension will be
checked.
If you want to add an Extension to this list, press the Ins(ert) key, and
type any Extension you wish (Maximum of 3 characters). Wildcards are
allowed. Press return when done. Then to effectively scan those files,
select the extension (white square).
Example: WPR, RS*, *
Note: The * Extension will force the check of every single file on
your machine. It is recommanded to use this Extension if you discovered
a virus in your system.
If you want to remove an Extension from this list, first move the cursor
to the extension you want to remove, then press the Del(ete) key.
================================================================
Self-Expandable Executable Files:
Some programs such as PKlite, or LZexe will transform EXE, or COM
files in a compressed executable. More and more commercial products
come in compressed form to save disk space. The compression process
modifies the characteristics of the file in such a way that standard
method of virus checking are not valid any longer. When this option is
on, we use special technics to insure an internal check of the program
and detect the presence of a virus on the file before compression was
done.
This option will slow down the virus check, and you should use it only
to check new files on your system, or after an infection has occur,
for thorough check of your machine.
